About This Experience

Join Mama Neema at her welcoming homestead in Karatu Central. You will begin with a short walk through her family vegetable and herb garden to harvest fresh spinach, coriander, and ripe bananas. Back at the open-air kitchen, learn traditional Swahili fire preparation, coconut shredding using a traditional mbuzi grater, and spice balancing for rich aromatic pilau and beef or vegetable stew. Once the feast is prepared, wash hands and sit together around the veranda table to eat, exchange stories, and enjoy fresh spiced chai.
